We will secure exceptional host families who are committed to taking an active role in your child’s education and cultural experience for the entire intensive program. Our host families are highly educated, secure individuals who must meet strict standards to qualify with us. Our host families must exhibit a sincere desire to provide the highest quality of care and commitment to their student and demonstrate their ability to assist him/her in reaching their academic goals. Host families are qualified under the following conditions:
- Proof of a clean record for any criminal offenses utilizing the same national database used by the U.S. government and law enforcement agencies.
- Proof of acceptable financial standing (credit report).
- A home inspection and interview conducted by a professional trained to determine the family and the home is suitable to your child’s needs. During the inspection and interview, our professional assessment will confirm that the host family meets the following requirements:
- The Host Family Home will be located within 20 minutes driving distance from the student’s school or 10 minutes from the school’s transportation stop.
- The Host Family Home will provide the student with his/her own private bedroom, which is defined as a room no less than 9’x 9’ with a window and a door and will include a study desk.
- The Host Family your child is placed with will not have children of the opposite sex over the age of 10 years. Host families who have children of both genders over the age of 10 years do not qualify to participate in our program. Simply put, we will not place your child in a home where there are teenage children of the opposite sex.
- The Host Family will demonstrate commitment to partner with your child in his/her desire to excel in their school work. They will direct their schedule to provide one-on-one interaction with your child to assist him/her in maintaining the highest academic performance, as well as the availability to regularly communicate with your child’s school relating to their progress, responsibilities and interests.
A Sense of Community
We are partnering with the Korean community in Indianapolis which allows us to connect these students with other Koreans who are established in English language and culture, and who are eager to mentor these students in order to help him/her feel more at home in their new surroundings.
There are approximately 6,000 Korean-Americans living and working in the Indianapolis area, and we are fostering a mentorship program to match students with volunteers who are excited to see these students grow and learn.
